- Meet the Guy Behind
Rail Armor & Stallion Coatings
My name is Brian Cox, and if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I’ve never been very good at sitting still.
I was born and raised in Texas, served in the U.S. Air Force, and somewhere along the way developed a habit of constantly learning, building, and creating things.
Sometimes that works out great. Sometimes it leads to buying lasers because I jokingly told somebody they were “cheating.”
More on that in a minute.
About 11 years ago, Stallion Coatings was born out of frustration after a bad experience with another business. Like a lot of people, I figured if I wanted something done right, maybe I ought to learn how to do it myself.
That decision changed everything.
Mentorship & Development
Not long after getting started, I met John Wright, who became both a mentor and a good friend. John helped train me and guided me through becoming KG GunKote certified. Over time, he convinced me to take things a step further and become a certified KG GunKote applicator trainer myself.
Somewhere along the way, I also had the opportunity to help develop the MultiCam color lineup for KG GunKote, which was a pretty incredible experience for a guy who originally just wanted to spray coatings and build cool stuff.
Back then, coatings were the main focus.
The Laser Shift
Then lasers entered the picture.
Ironically, I used to joke with students that using lasers on gun coatings was “cheating.” Turns out I should’ve kept my mouth shut, because before long both John and I bought fiber and CO₂ lasers ourselves.
At first, I was only using laser engraving to complement my coating work — small projects, markings, customization, things like that. But the deeper I got into it, the more I realized how much I loved the creative side of engraving and product design.
That eventually led to Rail Armor and a whole new direction I never expected.
Current Operations
These days, I balance a full-time job while also running Stallion Coatings and Rail Armor. And when I say “running,” I mean just about every part of it.
This is a one-man operation.

If something gets built, coated, engraved, packed, answered, cleaned, or shipped, there’s a pretty good chance I’m the one doing it.
Some days it’s organized chaos. Some days it’s just chaos.
Personal Foundation
Somehow in the middle of all that, I’m also married, have two kids, and four grandkids. How my wife puts up with all my projects, machines, late nights, and “I’ve got another idea” moments, I honestly don’t know. But she does, and I’m grateful for it every day.
The Core Philosophy
What keeps me going is simple: I genuinely love learning new things.
Whether it’s coatings, lasers, engraving, design, manufacturing, or figuring out how to turn an idea into a finished product, I enjoy the process just as much as the final result.
I like creating things that people can use, appreciate, and be proud to own.
The Essence of the Brand
That’s really what Stallion Coatings and Rail Armor are about.
Not some giant corporation. Not a marketing team. Just a Texas guy who enjoys building cool things and trying to make them a little better every day
